DISCLOSURE STATEMENT

October 19 - Susan Collins, the Viceroy of Maine

I thought Susan Collins was seeking reelection as a U.S. Senator.  Now, it seems she's appointed herself Viceroy of Maine. Apparently, she would like to enjoy the powers similar to those once held by J. Paul Bremmer, the Viceroy of Iraq, to grant immunity for the contractors (eg. Blackwater) working on his behalf.

Now, Viceroy Collins seems to have issued an edict granting herself a slightly different privilege. She wishes to grant her campaign immunity from accountability for the actions of its contractors. Viceroy Collins' edict has not been made public, but a "disclaimer" on her Director of Internet Strategy's Web site claims that  his public statements "should not be construed as official statements."

In other words, Collins campaign operatives should feel free to carry out smear campaigns to support the campaign. By virtue of merely posting some disclaimer, the campaign cannot be held responsible for such actions done for its benefit.

It is not clear whether this same campaign operatives' actions that brought his boss visibility on Fox News last week, as well as the public statements he made there also fall under the Viceroy's Edict.

Unfortunately for Collins, Maine is not Iraq.

See yesterday's posting for the unanswered questions sitting at the gate of Viceroy Collins' Green Zone (aka the Collins for Senator campaign).
