August 16 - Maine Heritage Policy Center & a Measure of the "Turd Blossom" Legacy

The pending retirement of Karl Rove hopefully marks the beginning of the end of the Culture of Spin. Rove, appropriately nicknamed "Turd Blosson" by George W. Bush, turned spin into substance. He has been the final, logical conclusion of the trend that gathered steam with Lee Atwater and then hit its stride with James Carville. One mark of the qualitative change that Rove brought to the game is comparing presidential press secretaries. How does Mike McCurry at his worst stack up against Tony Snow?

President Bush's success is Rove's finest accomplishment. Is it too soon to judge the Bush Administration? Perhaps. Still, future historians would do well to look at documentary evidence such as the posting for today's Maine Heritage Policy Center fundraising event. Jeb Bush is the featured speaker. Consider the personal/family part of his bio posted for the event:

(Jeb) Bush is the son of former President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush.  He lives in Miami with his wife Columba, and they have three children.

Maybe they just forgot to mention he's also the brother of the sitting President. It is, perhaps, a minor detail, something you might "inadvertently" leave out
